چکیده

[1] Scatterometer radar backscatter depends on the relationship linking surface stress and surface roughness. SST can alter the growth rate of centimeter-scale waves through its impact on air and water density and water viscosity. This SST-dependency has not been included in the standard Geophysical Model Functions. This study uses a radar imaging model to evaluate this SST-dependence and compares the results to observations from QuikScat Ku-band and ASCAT C-band scatterometers. A SST correction could raise wind speeds by up to 0.2 ms 1 in the storm track region of the Southern Ocean for C-band scatterometers. For the higher frequency Ku-band scatterometers, a SST-induced reduction up to 0.4 ms 1 is predicted south of 60 S, where SST is cold and winds are moderate. Citation: Grodsky, S. A., V. N. Oceanic and Atmospheric Anomalies of Tropical Instability Waves

Tropical instability waves (TIWs) are detected in remotely-sensed sea surface height (SSH), temperature (SST), and wind records of the eastern equatorial Pacific. Analyses of TIW anomaly relationships reveal strong dynamical influence of TIWs within approximately 5 of the equator. The first influence is advective heat flux. The primary forcing of TIW SST anomalies is advection of the meridional...

Sea surface temperature signatures of oceanic internal waves in low winds

[1] In aerial surveys conducted during the Tropical Ocean–Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Response Experiment and the low-wind component of the Coupled Boundary Layer Air-Sea Transfer (CBLAST-Low) oceanographic field programs, sea surface temperature (SST) variability at relatively short spatial scales (O(50 m) to O(1 km)) was observed to increase with decreasing wind speed. A unique...

Comparison of the Performance of Geographically Weighted Regression and Ordinary Least Squares for modeling of Sea surface temperature in Oman Sea

In Marine discussions, the study of sea surface temperature (SST) and study of its spatial relationships with other ocean parameters are of particular importance, in such a way that the accurate recognition of the SST relationships with other parameters allows the study of many ocean and atmospheric processes. Therefore, in this study, spatial relations modeling of SST with Surface Wind Speed (...
